Seasonal Celebrations

What’s that I hear? The sound of corks popping, glasses chinking, canapés being nibbled and... thousands of women reduced to a blustering panic at the fundamental question of the season: what to wear to the Christmas party??

It has become quite the custom these days for perfectly composed, respectable women to become jittering messes when confronted with any kind of occasion that requires dressing up.... I for one am a prime offender. Sparkly or simple? Girly or sophisticated? Embellished or plain? Understated or statement? Black or white? ...agh, someone pass us the mince pies!  Well, whilst you make yourself a nice little floordrobe and frantically snapchat your friends a stream of outfit selfies, don’t worry, because we’ve got the accessory side of things covered this Christmas at Ernest Jones.

From striking black to feminine pinks, this season’s top trends offer something for everyone. If you’re looking to go classic and classy this Christmas, then ensure you incorporate some soft pinks into your look. This stunning 9ct rose gold 12 point diamond and morganite ring offers just the right balance of sparkle and femininity, perfect for teaming with a neutral ensemble, or even contrasting against your trusty LBD. Surrounded by timeless diamonds, the morganite centrepiece offers a divine rose hue, creating an elegant style with a wonderfully Gatsby-esque, vintage inspired finish.

If you’re looking to make more of a statement this season, then you’ll be glad to hear that black is back. Whilst we typically associate the festive season with reds, golds and silvers, this staple colour is a welcome addition to our winter wardrobes; as the LBD taught us, you can never go wrong with black.  To give your party outfit an edge, opt for this Swarovski Slake Dark Deluxe crystal bracelet. Dark, sultry and uber sleek, this black wrap around bracelet is embellished end to end with shining studs and sparkling Swarovski crystals. Versatile yet sure to make an impact, this bracelet can be teamed with whatever outfit you may have in mind for your festive celebrations.

Party accessories don’t just have to mean jewellery; why not invest in a chic dress watch to give your look a stylish finishing touch? Everything about this Project D London ladies’ rose gold-plated strap watch is spot on for the party season. Rocking the much adored rose gold trend of A/W ’13, this watch delivers a compulsory dash of sparkle with a crystal embellished bezel, whilst avoiding totally stealing the limelight with its neutral, beige croc effect strap. Offering the perfect dose of modern elegance you can wear this watch all year round, and currently with 20% off, what’s not to love?!

Party Sparkle

Seeing as a complete wardrobe overhaul is completely necessary at this time of year that must mean a complete accessories overhaul is due too right? I mean, it’s safe to say we’ve bid farewell to our summer clothing and even our light autumn jackets, and are heading towards chunky knitted jumpers, woolly scarves and must-have boots. Although winter means wrapping up warm, it also means the ultimate party season, which in my book screams sequins, glitter, sparkle and a whole lot of jewellery to ensure you’ll shimmer at every occasion.

So hands up, who’s bought their office party dress already? If, like me, you can’t help yourself and have already found your perfect dress, then the next step, which is just as important, is finding the sparkles to ensure it is party season worthy.

The LBD is a fashionista’s must-have and will never let any girl down when it comes to making sure she looks her best. So whether you’re opting for mini, midi or maxi this year, a statement pair of earrings with an elegant chignon is sure to give your look an added edge. These Swarovski Vanilla earrings are the perfect addition to the ever faithful LBD, ensuring you’ll shine bright all night long for understated evening elegance. With statement earrings like these, skip the necklace and go straight for the ring with this matching Swarovski Vanilla ring; perfect for carrying a little glitter with you wherever you go.

So now we’ve got the office Christmas party covered, what about New Year?  Why not join the coin craze and add a vibrant pop of colour to your dress with a Lucet Mundi necklace? With a range of different lockets, chain lengths and coins to choose from, Lucet Mundi jewellery is easily interchangeable and perfect for styling your own unique look. Sporting an outfit made up of darker hues? Then go for a sprinkling of colour with one of the crystal coins. This pink one has to be one of my favourites, perfect for a burst of colour against a darker background. If you’re going for a lighter outfit, add a darker crystal coin for contrast, or one of the pastel collection for a subtle addition.

Found the perfect fashion jewellery to complement your winter style? Then why not spoil a loved one this Christmas with some fabulous fashion jewellery to guarantee a smile on Christmas day.

This beautiful bow necklace from Hot Diamonds is ideal for a special gift. Complete with a chic polished finish and a shimmering diamond, this feminine necklace is simply stylish and perfect for adding a dash of sparkle to someone special this Christmas.

Secret Santa? We’ve got that covered too. Go for contemporary chic with a pair of crystal stud earrings from Tresor Paris. Available in a range of colours and priced at only £11, these earrings are the perfect present for even the fussiest friend.

So whether you’re looking for the perfect addition to your winter outfits or the perfect Christmas present, make Christmas wishes come true at Ernest Jones.

Autumn/Winter Must Haves

It’s hard to believe that it’s October already, but a new month calls for a new wardrobe and, now that the autumn season is well and truly upon us, it’s about time we have a look at what trends are set to replace our brightly coloured spring/summer florals. With coats, boots and scarves soon becoming a must-have addition to our wardrobes, we take a look at how best to accessorise with this season’s favourite trends.

Amidst the deep reds, warm oranges and rich golds typically seen in autumn, this year an unusual colour is emerging. A feminine palette of pink was prominent on the A/W ‘13 catwalks, and from pale, dusky pinks to bright, vivid pinks, there was no escaping this rosy bouquet. The item that favoured this colour amongst the fashion world was, surprisingly, the coat, with a wide selection of designers including Mulberry and Marc Jacobs sending their models down the runway wrapped up warm in pretty pink outerwear. To embrace this girlie colour, then this stunning bracelet from Tresor Paris is adorned in sparkling pink crystals and will give your look a trendy dash of feminine glamour.

Between rebellious runways and the Met Institute’s punk themed ‘Chaos to Couture’ ball, it seems as though spikes, leather, tartan and a lot of black are all set to hit our wardrobes this year. There is no doubt that Punk has returned for A/W, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw yourself in with ripped clothing and brightly coloured hair. The easiest way to achieve this look is with a staple leather piece of clothing and some sleek black accessories. This black chain link watch from Michael Kors is the perfect combination of chic and edgy.

Animal prints are a timeless trend that, from the looks of Burberry’s A/W ‘13 fashion show, will be continuing throughout the season; so don’t throw out your animal print favourites just yet. With clothes and accessories available in an assortment of prints - from classic tortoiseshell and leopard print to more fashion forward graphics such as giraffe and zebra - it is simple to achieve a stylish look to suit any taste. There are no longer rules in regards to matching prints, so for a modern take on this trend white not mix a giraffe print shirt with this statement faux fur leopard print watch exclusive to Ernest Jones from Coach.

NYC Fashion Week Favourites

Now that New York, London and Milan’s fashion weeks are over and Paris’ is quickly drawing to a close, it’s time to look back at some of our fashion highlights and with some of our brands featuring we look at what we will be seeing in Spring/Summer 2014. From designers across the pond including Badgley Mischka, Michael Kors & Marc Jacobs to our European favourites Emporio Armani & Gucci and of course not forgetting our London lovelies Vivienne Westwood & Burberry, here at EJ HQ the past few weeks have been filled with excitement & added anticipation of what jewellery collections will also be next from these iconic brands.

For this blog, we are going to focus on some of our favourite brands straight from the catwalks of New York City, as we look at what we will be seeing from them next year.

Designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka lived up to expectation when they sent a beautifully romantic collection down the runway at the Lincoln Center on September 10th. The show began with flawlessly finished separates and then moved on to their elegant signature evening gowns. We saw an assortment of simply perfect silhouettes in an array of textures and hues, including soft pinks, crisp whites and deep blues as well as more vivid reds and corals, inspired by a vintage & Parisian chic theme. The Badgley Mischka jewellery collection exudes the same exquisite detailing and effortless glamour as we saw in their SS’14 clothing designs. This exquisite cocktail ring with blue topaz and our favourite, diamonds is the perfect way to give your look a dash of luxury complete with delicate & romantic inspiration.

From feminine chic to classic American style, Michael Kors never fails to deliver and always achieves collections that are desired by any fashion conscious woman. The romance theme as we saw with Badgley Mischa seemed to carry through in the Michael Kors show with femininity and natural glamour being a focal point for this collection. A combination of flowing spring time print dresses and sharply tailored two pieces in earthy neutral colours formed the bulk of his refreshingly simple collection. The designs had a sophisticated, New York inspired style that is easily transferable to everyday looks. This girly collection, is full of beautiful spring hues, from white, to navy blue and warm green floral prints and is quite a change from some of the more structured and masculine shapes we have seen from him in the past which is often carried through to his watch & jewellery designs. However, to complete an ultra feminine look what better way than with a little rose gold? With sultry pink hues and of course an added dash of sparkle, rose gold is an all season favourite and really comes into its own when teamed with delicate prints and colours. This rose-gold plated pave crystal pyramid necklace is the perfect addition to bold prints and romantic hues and will be sure to add a touch of timeless sparkle with a contemporary edge.

Francsico Costa for Calvin Klein celebrated ten years as the brands creative director at their Spring/Summer ’14 show on September 12th. The collection celebrated cuts that moved away from the body with silhouettes appearing roomy, boxy and unique. Colour and texture also made a bold appearance, with fringe-adorned dresses, frayed edges and multi-coloured printed snake-skin. Although different from what we normally see from Calvin Klein, the collection still conveyed the clean elegance that the Calvin Klein woman is well known for.

Calvin Klein’s minimalist style is evident in his jewellery collection. From contemporary shapes in a range of stainless steel and rose & yellow gold plating, the collection is perfect for understated elegance full of Calvin Klein influence. Re-create your own chic style with this Calvin Klein stainless steel born bangle and wear from day until night for modern style with a dash of glamour.

From romantic hues and feminine shapes to boxy and textured designs to the almost apocalyptic display from Marc Jacobs we definitely saw a whole spectrum of things to come next Spring/Summer. Heavily embroidered Victorian inspired gowns, hussar jackets, plimsolls and purses trimmed with long fringed tassels and dark bead embellishment stole the show with the colours creating a completely new way to think about the Spring palette. This unusual palette included black, garnet, petrol blue and deep bottle green. These heavy designs matched with solid colour, gave this collection a gothic feel and if you want to re-create this look, accessorise your style with this black silicone watch complete with gold detailing from the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. The black bracelet and dial create a moody atmosphere bringing his statement catwalk show to your look with the gold detailing giving a little dose of embellishment for added chic.

What looks from next season’s catwalk have you inspired? Romantic & feminine or beautifully gothic? Check out our Fashion Week Pinterest board for lots more ideas from some of the most iconic fashion designers in the world.

Something Old, Something New & Something Blue...

With the sun still hanging around to brighten our evenings and weekends, the last of the Summer weddings are also getting under way. Here at Ernest Jones we love a happy ending, and are always eager to give a helping hand on the way to marital bliss. We can’t book the venue, pick the dress or cater the food, but what we can do is share our jewellery favourites to help you perfect some of the latest and greatest wedding trends.

Something old....
To bring luck on her wedding day, it's traditional for the bride to wear “the four somethings”: something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. So we’ve decided to select a few stunning pieces to help you complete this traditional wedding criteria. If you aren’t heir to any family heirlooms, it can be tricky to fulfill the old part of the somethings. As an alternative to genuine antiques, why not represent the old by accessorising your bridal outfit with a vintage inspired piece of jewellery. This beautiful 9ct white gold bracelet pairs classic pearls with delicate rose quartz, not only achieving a traditional look, but also embracing the flourishing trend of the Blushing Bride, which sees pink as a key wedding colour this season.

Something new...
Fully embrace the new by accessorising your wedding dress with one of our recent Swarovski lines such as these Swarovski Vanilla rose gold-plated drop earrings. Boasting striking faceted Jet Hematite crystal, these earrings are in line with the latest and much debated trend of the 'dressed in black' bride. From wedding fairs to celebrity nuptials such as Shenae Grimes and Josh Beech, black has made a striking and unexpected leap into the wedding limelight. If you aren’t bold enough to go all out in a black dress and bouquet like Avril Lavigne, then these earrings are perfect for a dash of dark sparkle to give your wedding look that sultry edge.

Something blue….
If you’re a September baby or having a September wedding, what better way to fulfill your something blue than with a rich, glistening sapphire. As the birthstone of September, an item of sapphire jewellery will hold that extra special personal memory, whether it is because it’s representative of you, or commemorative of the time of your wedding. This 9ct white gold created sapphire pendant will add a lustrous pop of colour to your wedding dress, styled in a chic, contemporary design that you can wear again and again after your wedding.
