NYC Fashion Week Favourites

Now that New York, London and Milan’s fashion weeks are over and Paris’ is quickly drawing to a close, it’s time to look back at some of our fashion highlights and with some of our brands featuring we look at what we will be seeing in Spring/Summer 2014. From designers across the pond including Badgley Mischka, Michael Kors & Marc Jacobs to our European favourites Emporio Armani & Gucci and of course not forgetting our London lovelies Vivienne Westwood & Burberry, here at EJ HQ the past few weeks have been filled with excitement & added anticipation of what jewellery collections will also be next from these iconic brands.

For this blog, we are going to focus on some of our favourite brands straight from the catwalks of New York City, as we look at what we will be seeing from them next year.

Designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka lived up to expectation when they sent a beautifully romantic collection down the runway at the Lincoln Center on September 10th. The show began with flawlessly finished separates and then moved on to their elegant signature evening gowns. We saw an assortment of simply perfect silhouettes in an array of textures and hues, including soft pinks, crisp whites and deep blues as well as more vivid reds and corals, inspired by a vintage & Parisian chic theme. The Badgley Mischka jewellery collection exudes the same exquisite detailing and effortless glamour as we saw in their SS’14 clothing designs. This exquisite cocktail ring with blue topaz and our favourite, diamonds is the perfect way to give your look a dash of luxury complete with delicate & romantic inspiration.

From feminine chic to classic American style, Michael Kors never fails to deliver and always achieves collections that are desired by any fashion conscious woman. The romance theme as we saw with Badgley Mischa seemed to carry through in the Michael Kors show with femininity and natural glamour being a focal point for this collection. A combination of flowing spring time print dresses and sharply tailored two pieces in earthy neutral colours formed the bulk of his refreshingly simple collection. The designs had a sophisticated, New York inspired style that is easily transferable to everyday looks. This girly collection, is full of beautiful spring hues, from white, to navy blue and warm green floral prints and is quite a change from some of the more structured and masculine shapes we have seen from him in the past which is often carried through to his watch & jewellery designs. However, to complete an ultra feminine look what better way than with a little rose gold? With sultry pink hues and of course an added dash of sparkle, rose gold is an all season favourite and really comes into its own when teamed with delicate prints and colours. This rose-gold plated pave crystal pyramid necklace is the perfect addition to bold prints and romantic hues and will be sure to add a touch of timeless sparkle with a contemporary edge.

Francsico Costa for Calvin Klein celebrated ten years as the brands creative director at their Spring/Summer ’14 show on September 12th. The collection celebrated cuts that moved away from the body with silhouettes appearing roomy, boxy and unique. Colour and texture also made a bold appearance, with fringe-adorned dresses, frayed edges and multi-coloured printed snake-skin. Although different from what we normally see from Calvin Klein, the collection still conveyed the clean elegance that the Calvin Klein woman is well known for.

Calvin Klein’s minimalist style is evident in his jewellery collection. From contemporary shapes in a range of stainless steel and rose & yellow gold plating, the collection is perfect for understated elegance full of Calvin Klein influence. Re-create your own chic style with this Calvin Klein stainless steel born bangle and wear from day until night for modern style with a dash of glamour.

From romantic hues and feminine shapes to boxy and textured designs to the almost apocalyptic display from Marc Jacobs we definitely saw a whole spectrum of things to come next Spring/Summer. Heavily embroidered Victorian inspired gowns, hussar jackets, plimsolls and purses trimmed with long fringed tassels and dark bead embellishment stole the show with the colours creating a completely new way to think about the Spring palette. This unusual palette included black, garnet, petrol blue and deep bottle green. These heavy designs matched with solid colour, gave this collection a gothic feel and if you want to re-create this look, accessorise your style with this black silicone watch complete with gold detailing from the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. The black bracelet and dial create a moody atmosphere bringing his statement catwalk show to your look with the gold detailing giving a little dose of embellishment for added chic.
