Holiday Essentials

If you are lucky enough to be jetting off on holiday this year - whether you already have booked it and are counting down the days, or are still planning when and where to go - you have probably already started prepping your holiday wardrobe. With luggage limitations restricting how much we can take, strategically ensuring we still end up looking our summer best becomes the key priority when packing. It isn’t necessary to pack your entire jewellery box; with just three core pieces you can accessorise all your holiday looks, without compromising on style or suitcase space.

Bracelets and bangles are a sure fire way to give your holiday look a fashion forward finish. Perfect for everyday, you can wear alone or stack them up and mix and match to create a combination of styles that will complement any outfit. Tortoiseshell effect sunglasses are a summer essential this year, and Michael Kors has taken this current trend and transformed it into a new summer favourite… Tortoiseshell effect jewellery! Go for poolside glamour with this chic gold-plated tortoiseshell effect bangle, an oversized bag and, of course, matching sunglasses. Alternatively, layer with sparkling bracelets to achieve an elegant evening twist.

A key piece that you can wear everyday and will take you right through to the evenings is a chunky watch. It’s a versatile accessory that is sure to give any of your holiday outfits a stylish finish, and this Champagne Gold-Plated Watch from Marc Jacobs is the perfect example. Classic and simple but sporting a bold design, this timepiece will give any outfit a fashionable edge, whilst its sun-kissed yellow gold tone will complement your tan perfectly.

We all like to make a statement now and again, so why not pack one show stopping piece that’s guaranteed to get noticed.  This glistening Nirvana necklace from Swarovski speaks for itself and will add a glamorous finishing touch to your evening look. The sleek silver tone chain knots around a stylish ring of faceted Swarovski crystal, its shimmering light turquoise hue reminiscent of clear blue oceans. With a simple design so as not to take away from the radiance and sparkle of the pendant, this necklace is perfect as a dash of daytime glamour or evening elegance.

Colourful Weddings

With the heat wave looking to stay around a bit longer than we all expected, our attentions have turned to sandals, maxi dresses and that very important task of keeping cool. Summer always has a way of taking our ordinary wardrobes and spinning them into these colourful, graphic, eye catching masterpieces, and we for one love this splash of colour! With graphic prints, bold colours and statement jewellery alike, where does this leave the summer bride? Do they ditch the traditional bridal colour palette and go for something a little brighter or stick to the traditional wedding hues? If you’re planning a summer wedding, we’ve got some jewellery perfect for your sunny Big Day.

Coloured diamonds have been on the rise this year, with more and more brides steering away from the traditional white diamond solitaire and opting for a coloured diamond or even a precious stone to mark the centrepiece of their engagement ring.  These brightly coloured stones are perfect for a summer wedding, with the vibrant nature of them forever being a reminder of your sun kissed wedding. Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson both showcased their lemon halo cluster engagement rings, which looked wonderful against their perfectly tanned skin. I’m a huge fan of the lemon diamond trend and when combined with a halo of glistening white diamonds, they really come to light.

Gwen Stefani famously wore a breathtaking, custom pink ombre gown by John Galliano for Dior. With Gwen’s individual style, it was to be expected she’d make a statement, and Gwen’s love of pink really was taken to new heights with this beautiful wedding dress. Pink is definitely a love it or hate it colour, and whether you’re brave enough to walk down the aisle in a gown like Gwen’s or not, a splash of feminine pink jewellery is sure to make your summer wedding flourish.

Coloured crystal or precious stones are a great way to give your bridal look a colourful twist. This stunning Swarovski pendant and earring set boasts delicate rose crystals framed with a white crystal twist setting. Worn with a low neckline wedding gown, this elegant set is sure to add a touch of subtle glamour to your special day.

Another favourite since the Royal wedding has to be sapphire. This regal stone has seen it’s popularity soar since the now Duchess of Cambridge – Catherine Middleton – wowed millions across the world with her beautiful sapphire and diamond ring, worn before her by Diana Princess of Wales. Many brides have incorporated this look into their own wedding day, either by adding a splash of blue to their bridal jewellery or inspiring their grooms-to-be to opt for a sapphire engagement ring.

This elegant sapphire and diamond ring is the perfect contemporary alternative to Kate’s more traditional engagement ring. Showcasing a sparkling, deep blue sapphire centrepiece, framed with a double halo of sapphires and diamonds, this 18ct white gold ring offers elegant glamour complete with that regal inspiration throughout.

For a luxury dash of colour, indulge in these peacock feather inspired earrings from esteemed fashion designer Badgley Mischka. Complete with a combination of amethyst, vivid green tsavorite and delicate champagne diamonds all pulled together to hang perfectly from a chandelier design, these striking earrings combined with a simplistic white wedding gown would be sure to give your wedding some summer sparkle.

Will you be injecting some colour into your wedding day? What are your thoughts on precious stones and coloured diamonds?

A Royal Affair

It’s been a busy few years for the Royal family, what with the Diamond jubilee celebrations and the renowned Royal wedding, and this weekend is set to mark yet another milestone; the due date of  Prince William and Kate’s baby. Boy or girl, late or early, the impending birth seems to be the hot topic of conversation everywhere – including here at Ernest Jones. In homage to the approaching baby Will or Kate, we’ve selected some of our favourite picks for yet another fabulous Royal occasion.

In line with the imminent due date, the centrepiece of this stunning 9ct white ring showcases the divine July birthstone, ruby. If you’re planning to give an item of jewellery for a birthday present, including the birthstone, adds a lovely, thoughtful touch that  personalises the gift to the recipient. Claw set with a vintage inspired oval cut, the ruby in this delicate ring is framed with glittering diamond set shoulders. Precious and unique, this ring makes for the perfect gift for anyone who shares their birth month with the soon-to-be Prince or Princess.

Whenever I think of royalty, Sapphire is never far from my thoughts, from the timeless royal blue to the deep blue sapphire ring The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton showed proudly as hers and Williams’s engagement was announced to the world. Sapphire really is a precious stone of royalty and perfect for adding a little regal elegance to any look, daytime or evening. These cushion shaped stud flower earrings boast four princess cut sapphires encased by a lining of gold and finished off with diamond edged corners, creating a beautifully vintage feel about them.

Baby showers, Christenings; the arrival of a new baby is always accompanied by reasons to celebrate and shower those involved with gifts of luck and happiness. If you too have recently welcomed a new born into the world, then this Wedgwood Silver Bear Music Box is a beautiful gift perfect for a Christening or first visit. Finished with polished silver plating, the Silver Bear collection from Wedgwood offers simply elegant gifts, all complete with the adorable teddy bear signature to the collection. This simple music box is topped with a beautifully engraved, gently turning teddy, adding a charming finishing touch to this precious keepsake.

Wimbledon Wardrobe

With Wimbledon nearing an end, we look back at some of our favourite celebrity style spots who’s court side looks have been enough to distract us from the tennis and have been the subject of our fascination for the past fortnight. As the British summer weather finally seems to have arrived (I say in fear), summer dresses, floral patterns and bright colours have flooded the iconic venue for a Wimbledon Wardrobe anyone would be proud of!

Mollie King no doubt stole the show, wearing cute floral shorts and a matching blazer teamed with a simple buttoned up white shirt. This feminine look is right on trend this season, not only was the Saturday’s singer flaunting this colourful look, but Kim Sears also opted for floral chic and wore a tight fitting dress to cheer on her man of the moment boyfriend, Andy Murray, and although she may have been put through a rollercoaster of emotions, she remained cool and collective looking stunning throughout. Both ladies’ completed their looks with a statement watch and simple nude accessories. For your own Wimbledon inspired floral look, try teaming a flowery playsuit with this elegant rose gold plated watch from the Emporio Armani collection for the perfect finishing touch.

Kim Sears didn’t stop there with her winning Wimbledon ensembles; she looked fabulous for a second time wearing a sunshine yellow skater dress, a denim jacket and again those Summer must-have nude accessories. These vivid colours are perfect for the summer season and look great with a sun-kissed tan, however if you’re not quite brave enough to step out in an attire as bright as hers, add a splash of colour with this chunky orange bangle from Michael Kors. Team with a simple white T-shirt dress and an edgy sleeveless denim jacket for a striking twist.

Other celebrities opted for a more timeless look such as Katherine Jenkins who turned up looking elegant as ever, sporting a classic cream knee length dress and matching blazer. She gave her look a fashion forward edge by stacking up a mixture of bangles and bracelets with hints of green and gold. This slim mint green bangle from Ted Baker with a polished gold coloured buckle is the ideal accessory for giving your look a stylish, contemporary finish.

Wimbledon fashion hasn’t only stayed within the walls of the games, bright tennis whites have been a colour of choice amongst the celebrity world from dresses and blazers to shoes and even sunglasses. Cameron Diaz looked ultra chic in a structured white dress and strappy heels. This stylish watch from DKNY in crisp white and sterling silver is the perfect way to give your evening look a touch of Wimbledon inspired glamour.
